Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, said on 28 October that the temporarily occupied city of Oleshky has seen no incidents since a ceasefire took effect 30 hours earlier. He made the announcement on social media.
"Thirty hours of a ceasefire in Oleshky without a single incident," Lubinets wrote. He said the calm was made possible, in part, by constant communication between him and Yana Lantratova, Russia's human rights commissioner. "We remain in contact and are coordinating the implementation of the agreements reached," he added.
Lubinets also thanked US First Lady Melania Trump for her role in the humanitarian mission and in helping civilians in Oleshky. In his view, her direct involvement and the coordination of efforts between the parties were important parts of the process. He extended thanks as well to her team for its support and continued communication.
The commissioner stressed that the shared goal is to provide assistance to Oleshky's civilian population and to create conditions for the safe evacuation of those who need it.
The latest update follows an earlier report from 27 October. At that time, Lubinets said that as of 17:30, both Ukraine and Russia were fully complying with the ceasefire agreements in the designated areas tied to the humanitarian mission. No violations by either side had been recorded at that point.
The truce has its origins in an announcement by the White House on 23 October. It said Melania Trump had secured a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine in Oleshky, where a humanitarian disaster is currently unfolding.
Lubinets then announced that the ceasefire in the Oleshky area would begin at 03:00 Kyiv time on 27 October. Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed that the ceasefire had been introduced. It is scheduled to remain in effect until 22:59 on 1 November.
