The Premier League title race has collapsed into a dead heat after Manchester City lost 2-1 at Aston Villa. The defeat ended the visitors' unbeaten start to the season and erased their three-point advantage over Arsenal. Both clubs now sit on 21 points after eight matches, creating a direct contest for the lead.
Aston Villa secured their first home league victory of the campaign through a performance that saw them climb to sixth place with 11 points. Nicolas Jackson scored twice to give Unai Emery's side a third consecutive league win against City. The result stands in contrast to the financial uncertainty currently weighing on the champions, who are appealing a ruling that found 114 breaches of Premier League financial rules.
In London, Arsenal took full advantage of the slip-up by defeating Everton 2-0 in heavy rain at the Emirates Stadium. The match broke a 13-game drought for the hosts, marking their first set-piece goal since May. The breakthrough came in the seventh minute when Ezri Konsa bundled in a rebound from Martin Odegaard's corner, a goal that Konsa credited to the need for consistent victories in a title challenge.
The final score was sealed in the 68th minute by Gabriel, who headed in a cross from Ben White. The goal was notable for the milestones it represented, arriving on White's 200th appearance for Arsenal and Gabriel's 200th Premier League outing. Everton remains in ninth place, while Arsenal's home form has been a key factor in their recent climb.
The day's results reshaped the upper echelon of the table beyond the top two. Tottenham Hotspur traveled to Stamford Bridge and beat Chelsea 2-0, a result that marked only their second league victory there in 36 years. Cole Palmer saw a second yellow card in the 80th minute, and Mathys Tel scored the winner in the 87th minute to lift Spurs to 12th place. Chelsea's goalkeeper Mike Penders conceded an own goal in the 77th minute during his first league start.
Down the table, Fulham recorded their second league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Coventry City. Oscar Bobb scored the decisive goal in the 80th minute, curling the ball into the far corner just as the manager prepared to make a substitution. The result places Fulham 13th in the standings, while Coventry sits in 19th place.
