Nine people died when a Learjet 60 private jet crashed into a residential neighborhood near Cresthaven in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday afternoon. The aircraft impacted the ground at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time. United States Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the fatality count. He described the event as a horrible tragedy and extended condolences to the victims' families.

The FAA identified the aircraft as a Learjet 60, a medium-sized executive jet manufactured by Bombardier Aerospace. The plane has a total length of 58 feet. It is designed to carry a maximum of two crew members and eight passengers. The jet has a maximum range of more than 2,400 nautical miles. GlobalAir.com provided these technical specifications for the model.

The flight originated at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas. Its destination was the North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. The aircraft was traveling over the Atlantic Ocean before descending into the crash site in Florida. No other flights were listed on the manifest. The crash occurred in a populated area featuring houses, shops, workshops, and schools.

Associated Press reporting indicated the aircraft narrowly avoided striking several homes. It fell near a roadway in Cresthaven. Authorities have not confirmed whether the impact caused damage to nearby residences. Military Trail remains closed in both directions between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. Police advised drivers to use alternate routes. The closure affects a busy corridor in the region.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating the cause of the accident. The FAA sent a team to the scene to support the NTSB inquiry. Sean Duffy stated that the FAA and the Department of Transportation are closely monitoring the situation. He promised to share updates as more information becomes available. The agencies will determine the specific factors that led to the crash.

Local reporter Adrian Criscaut of Telemundo 51 observed a large police presence at the site. Multiple security agencies and rescue units continued to arrive hours after the impact. Authorities planned a press conference within minutes to clarify details. Criscaut described the area as extremely populated. The presence of rescue teams suggested that victims were involved in the initial response.
